The unique placements of increases and decreases create the asymmetrical shape and cause the lace panel to travel in a diagonal fashion.
The Rocky Hills Shawl is a triangular shawl knit in a combination of subtle texture and delicate lace.
This pattern, worked from the top down, does not even need a chart. Simple yarn-over increases are alternated with double yarn-over rows, hiding, but at the same time highlighting the Pi increase within the design.
