The art of knitting has always been about more than just creating beautiful garments, accessories, or blankets. It’s about community, tradition, and using our craft to give back. The Knitting Guild Association (TKGA) is excited to announce the 2024 Charity Knitting Drive—a wonderful opportunity for knitters of all skill levels to come together, create with purpose, and provide warmth to those in need. Whether you’re a seasoned Master Hand Knitter or just beginning your knitting journey, this drive offers a chance to use your skills for a cause that truly makes a difference.
What is the 2024 Charity Knitting Drive?
The 2024 Charity Knitting Drive encourages knitters to create handmade items for donation. TKGA has partnered with Warm Up America!, a non-profit organization with a long-standing tradition of distributing handmade items like blankets, hats, and scarves to communities in need. Your contributions will go to various shelters, hospitals, and other organizations that serve those who could benefit from a little extra warmth and kindness.
How to Participate
Participating in the 2024 Charity Knitting Drive is simple!. Here’s how you can get involved:
- Cast on: Knit items that are most needed, such as blankets, hats, scarves, or other cozy accessories. Acrylic yarn is ideal for the easy-care features, but if you choose to use a cotton or wool blend, please add a tag to your item!
- Submit: Send your completed items to Warm Up America! by December 3, also known as Giving Tuesday! Make sure to complete and include the TKGA Entry Form with your items!
- Win a Prize: Including the TKGA Entry form with your knitted items will enter you into a drawing for one lucky winner to win a book bundle from Storey publishing! It’s a small way to say thank you for your generosity and effort.
Free Patterns to Get You Started
If you’re looking for inspiration, TKGA has you covered on TKGA’s Free Patterns page. TKGA member, you’ll also have access to an even wider variety of patterns from Cast On magazine. This is a great opportunity to try out new techniques while knitting for a cause.
Here are a few category suggestions to inspire your next cast-on:
- Cozy Hats: Hats are quick to knit and always in high demand. Try a simple beanie pattern or go for something a bit more intricate if you’re up for a challenge. These projects are perfect for using up leftover yarn.
- Warm Scarves: A scarf is like a warm hug in yarn form. Scarves are a wonderful way to practice stitch patterns and are suitable for knitters of all skill levels.
- Comforting Blankets: Whether it’s a lap blanket or a full-sized afghan, blankets are a cherished item for many.
Spread the Word
