TKGA is hosting a charity knitting drive to provide knitted items to those in need.

We have teamed up this year with Warm up America! to provide warmth and comfort to vulnerable communities, just ahead of the winter season.

Can you make time to knit a gift for someone you don’t know?

Your knitting skills are valued, and ALL knitters of all skill levels are welcome to participate!

More Details….

Items Needed:  Finished Blankets (lap blankets for adults in nursing homes, child sized blankets which are in demand, and baby blankets), 7×9″ Sections (these will be assembled by volunteers into blankets and the sections make a good project for student groups, new knitters, or knitters who can no longer knit lengthy projects.)  Hats, Gloves & Mittens, Scarves & Cowls, Sweaters for adult and children.

Yarn:  A medium weight, machine washable and dryable 100% acrylic yarn is ideal for Warm Up America! blankets and accessories because completed items are easy to clean and acrylic is what most places that receive the donations accept. However, if you’d like to knit an adult hat, scarf or sweater in a fiber like cotton or a machine washable wool blend, please attach a tag that says “Cotton” or “Wool” to the actual item since some people have allergies.

Reminder…. TKGA members save 20% off Knit Picks yarns through 9/30/24. Visit Member Benefits for your discount code (an option is Brava, 100% acrylic, available in sport, worsted and bulky weights.)

Patterns:  Use any pattern you wish.  Cast On has many patterns available to members to download for free.  For a quick search, enter the item type (ex: hat) in the search bar. We have made some pattern free for this event… (please scroll to the bottom of this page.)

Giveaway!  We will be holding a random drawing from entry forms and one lucky winner will receive a book bundle from our sponsor, Storey Publishing. Winner will be notified Friday, December 6th.  Winner must have a U.S. address to be eligible. Limit one entry form per item.

How to Participate:

  1. Gather your yarn and pattern
  2. Knit your item
  3. Print out and complete the TKGA Entry Form
  4. Put TKGA entry form inside the package with your knitted item
  5. Mail to:

Dates:  Packages can be accepted through Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Group Activity: Our Charity Drive 2024 is a fantastic fall project for knitting groups, local guilds, and student groups. If you are a teacher, 4-H leader, scout leader, or local guild officer, please print out our Flyer to get your group involved.  If your group puts all of your knitted items in one box, you can still print one TKGA entry form for each item.  Just paper clip all entry forms together and place them at the top of your items in the box.

Where does Warm Up America! send the items? Your handknit item will be sent to where it is needed at the time including senior care facilities, homeless shelters, children’s foster care organizations, community outreach non-profits, hospitals, schools, and hospice centers.  Many lap blankets are sent to senior care facilities, hospice, hospitals, and Meals on Wheels.  Veteran blankets (red/white/blue or camo) are sent to Soldier’s Angels, Tunnels 2 Towers or other veterans’ homes.
