This cowl features the stranding technique where the motif color is worked as purl stitches and the background color is worked as knit stitches. There are matching mitts worked in a lighter weight yarn.

The pattern in this issue is from Gretchen Hines-Ward who is working on Level 1 and Taming Tension. The Icarus Infinity Scarf using ArtYarns Silk Essence and is worked on the bias. It would be a lovely addition to any holiday outfit.
This cowl, designed by Michael Harrigan, uses many different stitch patterns. Eyelet, lace, slip stitch and Fair Isle are all used. The contrasting colors used in this cowl are very close to those that can be seen when the Aurora Borealis illuminates the northern sky.
