When is the Launch Party?

Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2pm ET, 11am PT. Meet the designer Therese Chynoweth and hear her inspiration and tips for knitting this pattern, plus find out what’s new directly from Universal Yarn. Check back here in December for the Zoom link to the Launch Party.

Can I start knitting before then?

Yes!  Download the pattern, make your design choices, gather your materials, and cast on. Be sure to bring your knitting to the Launch Party too.

Will there be another Zoom party?

Yes!  We will have a second KAL party on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2pm ET, 11am PT.  This is great time to show your progress, ask questions, or learn about modifications or tips from others. Plus, we have a few giveaways at the end!

If I miss one, can I watch the Zoom parties later?

Yes, they will be aired on Fiberchats YouTube channel a few days after each live event.

How do I get the pattern:

TKGA members can find the pattern for A Study in Contrasts by Therese Chynoweth in the Winter 25/26 issue of Cast On magazine.  Not a member yet?  You can download the pattern from our Free Patterns page for a limited time.

What skills do I need?

Knitters should know how to do the following:

Knit, purl, knit in the round, make one increases, basic bind off, following a chart, yarn overs, purl through the back loop, and calculating how to evenly space decreases across a round. It’s helpful if you are familiar with German Short Rows and Provisional Cast On, but if they’re new to you or if you’d like a refresher, we have video tutorials.

Do you have any videos to show how to work some of these techniques?

Yes!  TKGA Certified Master Knitters and Professional Knitters have recorded videos to teach new skills or refresh your memory on techniques you may not have worked in a while.

Do I need to need to use Bamboo Pop yarn?

Bamboo Pop by Universal Yarn is the yarn used in both samples shown online and, in the pattern, but you are free to use any yarn you’d like. While these pullovers were designed with Bamboo Pop, you do not need to use this yarn. Please note that the design calls for one solid color and one painted color of the same yarn.
